Discrimination against Transgender in Pakistan
“Rejecting your gay or transgender child won’t make them straight. It will only mean you will lose them.”
― Christina Engela
People are characterized as Transgender, when they do not have any specific Gender Identity as either they are a male or a female. Usually, when people are not expressive about their gender as male or female, because they known to be a Transgender. One becomes Transgender, due to medical terms like Gender Dysphoria and Gender Identity Disorder. But, one can also apparently change his/her gender to another through seeking medical help i.e. surgeries. But it is not something one should ashamed of as it could happen to anyone. They are normal human just every other human is. Similarly, they do have right to live as everybody has if transgender rights are strictly followed by the community. Sometimes, they feel independent of gender attractions or on the other time they may be attract to the same genders.
Transgender Rights
Since centuries, Transgender rights neglected and ignored by the world just for the same reason that they suppose to be a Transgender. They have not given their rights. Despite they have been treated as slaves or they are not given the status of a human. Indeed, this is insane. But, with the passage of time world has realized the truth. So, they have been compensating gradually.
Now there are the problems Transgender usually facing. Some of the problems are because of external factors, while for other problems they themselves are responsible. One of the major problems they face in society is Transgender Mafia where the Transgender administers by the goons and mafia. As they force them to beg and perform unethical and criminal activities. These Transgenders not even safe in Pakistan that is why they force to do what they said to do.
In addition, another problem is the problem of law and order. As there are laws, but there is not implementation that is why Transgender again gets deprived of their laws. The TV and Media also portray the negative side more than the positive side of Transgender. That is why people’s mind gets full of nonsense. There is a little development that Media did not highlighted just as they highlight the negativity. In the recent years, Transgender have been issues National Identity Cards and Passports by the Government of Pakistan. Now, Transgender Professor educates in a renowned University and also a private news channel hires a Transgender as their female Anchorperson.
”Trans people usually face discrimination while searching for a job and compels to beg, dance or work as prostitutes in order to earn money”
Role of the Community
First and foremost, people in society should themselves change their mind and give respect to the Transgenders. They should get together and voluntarily provide them education and good honorable jobs, until the Government of Pakistan takes any serious step in this regard. Transgender rights actually the same as every other person is, so community should treat them as respected citizens.
To conclude that, we would say that in Pakistan as per Society, Religious Views and as per International Laws, a lot of development will need for Transgender. On one hand, lack of implantation of laws and bills by the Government and Authorities is the major reason of the drawbacks of Transgender.
Consequently, the inability and unwillingness of Transgender rights are the major reason of the miserable condition of Transgender. Although, there are laws, the Religion (Islam) has also prohibited any kind of discrimination by people for their races, castes or creed etc. Moreover, there are International Laws in favor and support of Transgender too. But somehow, Government of Pakistan, Society and Public all are responsible somewhere.
In order to bring the change in this regard, everyone needs to show some responsibility and vigilance. In essence, the Transgender should take inspiration from people like Marvia Malik, Rimal Ali, Begum Nawazish Ali (also known as Ali Saleem). They actually stood up for their rights, and the people of Pakistan and the Government of Pakistan supported them. Now, they are the ones, with good educations and good careers as well as other respectful citizens of Pakistan. It is never too late.
There are many educational and vocational fields for them. Even Transgender can get into the Army or Government to prove their abilities and skills. There should be equity and equality among all citizens irrespective of their castes, creeds, colors or anything like that.
